Here are a couple of phrases for you and a simple test.
Are these in the Bible?
“cleanliness is next to godliness”
“this too shall pass”
“the eyes are the window of the soul”
“moderation in all things”
“God helps those who help themselves”
“God moves in mysterious ways”
“wisdom is in the multitude of counselors”

Probably the last one surprises you especially.
It’s probably a FAKE VERSE we all have quoted.
Not to worry….though those exact words are not there, the spirit of it is all over Proverbs.
Who does the Bible consider the wisest man that ever lived (minus Jesus)?
The writer of Proverbs
Isn’t it amazing that “the wisest man that ever lived” said ….WE NEED COUNSELORS AND ADVISORS
I would think the wisest man would say the opposite.
There is probably not a person out there smarter than Solomon but yet we refuse to, are slow to, or see no need to bring wise people into our lives.  We love peers but have no “gray heads” that have a lot more journey than us speaking to us.
Here is what Solomon actually said….
Prov 11:14
Without good direction, people lose their way;
the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.

Prov 15:22
Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail;
take good counsel and watch them succeed.
Prov 24:6
Strategic planning is the key to warfare;
to win, you need a lot of good counsel.
Prov 1:5
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning;
and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Though the verse “there is wisdom in the multitude of counselors” is not in the Bible
The spirit of that statement resides all over Proverbs.
Sometimes we have transferred good quotes to Biblical status…this is one.
Probably someone said this in explaining one of the above verses and because it was so good it has now been added to Holy Writ in our minds.
No need to worry….it’s there in spirit but just not in those words and it comes from the world’s wisest man.
So the better question is “do you want to win?”  or “Do you want to succeed?”  or “Do you want plans to be accomplished?”

If you answer “yes” to those questions then you must remember that winning cannot be done alone. Succeeding cannot be done without the help of wiser people in our lives.  Accomplishments are accomplished because of the wise.
