I know in mathematics 4 always follows 3.

But I have to tell you that there is one place in the Bible that 4 should NOT follow 3.  And it’s only because it does not make sense at least to me.

Here it is in John 13


3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4 *got up from supper, and *laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself.


The transition does not even make sense in my mind

I don’t understand in my selfish, prideful man how 4 follows 3.


Listen to the SURE FACTS of verse 3….

“Knowing the Father have given ALL THINGS into His hands”

“That He had come forth from God”

“And was going back to God”


So what should be next?  What should follow these incredible statements?

Lightening bolts coming out of Him

Jesus levitating off the ground saying “I told you I was God”


That is what man would do

That is what we preachers would have done

Not Jesus.  



We let WHAT WE KNOW make us think we are extraordinary
