We are fascinated with the tall and handsome. It’s both Biblical and historical. I’ll show you both.
We are so quickly putting oil on the tall guy’s head.
Please don’t be offended by this blog.
This is not a knock against the vertically challenged or a indictment against tall people; it is a challenge to be God like and to shun being fascinated by the outward. Someone may be short in stature but huge in heart and someone can be tall in stature and small in heart. The outward is not the indication of what is happening on the inward. God sees much different than we see.
I’ll show you what I mean.
Saul is mentioned in the Bible for the first time in I Samuel 9:2.
2 He had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and handsome man, and there was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel; from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people.
And he will soon be Israel’s first king and everything is wrong about him being king from the get go. It was never God’s intention but man’s invention.
And to add insult to injury the Bible speaks to him being captivating on the outward and nothing about his insides.
Man has a fascination with looks, appearance and the outward. Image means everything to man.
Where God looks at the heart, man still looks at the outward appearance.(I Samuel 16:7)
And there is something about TALL that fascinates mankind. This was Saul’s inroad to royalty, a tall guy. How insane is that?
Nothing in this verse about this man Saul speaks to his character, everything was outward….tall and handsome. And we still choose leaders today according to height and looks and image.
